This whole season has felt … delayed. Here it is Dec. 17, and my wife and I only just had our annual White Christmas viewing last night.
That movie never gets old. I love it—though the song “Snow” has always been an odd one to me. The four main characters suddenly start singing about how much they love snow, and all the stuff they’re going to do with and in it. Betty Haynes (played by Rosemary Clooney) twice declares she wants to wash her hair with snow.
Is that a thing? I mean, do people really wash their hair with snow? And their faces and hands, as also indicated by the song? I’ve never lived somewhere that cold, so I don’t know if it’s common to see folks bathing in the frozen outdoors. Or carting buckets of snow inside for a soak?
If you’ve never seen White Christmas, I suggest giving it a try. It’s got its cheesy moments, sure, and it’s musical—which isn’t everyone’s cup of cocoa—but it’s clever and funny and ultimately has a happy ending, which is what Advent is all about, right?
What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
Yeah… not kidding, we watch White Christmas too, and I always randomly break out in “Snow” for a few days afterwards.
Or some hastily assembled new version of “Sisters.”
I would pay to see you and Ryan do the Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye version of sisters! One of my favorite parts of the movie.
My all time favorite! Never ceases to produce tears as the General enters. Sadly I can’t find anyone to view it with me this year 😦 Big sigh- I need to get my White Christmas on soon or I will miss the season.
We love White Christmas too! Jared introduced me to it when we got married. He was appalled that I had never seen it before.
My favourite Christmas movie is the Alec Guiness’ version of Little Lord Fauntleroy (a TV-version, not a cinema-movie). I can nearly speak the lines … Nearly.
Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas
I watched the Muppet’s Christmas Carol this week with Josh. I think it may be my new favorite version of the story. Loved it!!
I was hoping that our local discount theater would show White Christmas this year… would be cool to see it on the big screen.
My favorite Christmas movie is … Bad Santa. Not a kid movie. Which is maybe why I like it so much. It’s like a guilty pleasure.
